The gravitational physics/LIGO+LISA group at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) http://grg.uib.es is seeking applications for tenure track and post-doctoral positions funded by the Spanish “Ramón y Cajal” and “Juan de la Cierva” programs. Both programs fund a fixed number of positions across all research areas. Applications will be evaluated by the Spanish government, with results expected in July 2019.

Our group will support applications in the areas of gravitational wave physics, astrophysics and cosmology, including data analysis, modelling of gravitational wave sources, numerical relativity, and related topics.

The positions are:

A ) 5-year tenure track research positions in the “Ramón y Cajal” program.
Candidates are required to have obtained their PhD in the years 2008-2015, and should have a very strong publication record.

B ) 3-year postdoctoral positions in the “Juan de la Cierva” program, with a duration of 3 years for candidates who have obtained their PhD 2014-2016, and 2-year postdoctoral positions for candidates who have obtained their PhD 2017-2018.

Deadlines for submitting applications to the government are January 30 2019 for the tenure track positions, January 29 for the 3-year postdoc and January 31 for the 2-year postdoc.

The official calls can be found at (note that the calls are not yet open): http://www.ciencia.gob.es/portal/site/MICINN/menuitem.d20caeda35a0c5dc7c68b11001432ea0/?vgnextoid=bfe8865dd69b2610VgnVCM1000001d04140aRCRD

For positions (B) the number of applications that can be supported by our group is limited, and for the tenure track positions (A) the number of eventual hirings in physics by our university will be limited. Therefore, and to allow time for joint preparation of applications, interested candidates should contact us informally **as soon as possible**.

Our group is a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, the GEO600 project, and the LISA consortium, and currently consists of faculty members Alicia Sintes, Sascha Husa, Jaume Carot, 3 postdocs, 5 PhD students and several master’s and undergraduate students. Another tenure track faculty member is expected to be hired in gravitational wave physics in 2019. We are also members of the IAC3 institute for applied computing (iac3.uib.es), which includes further researchers in relativity, computational physics, applied mathematics and solar physics.

Interested candidates should contact us at gravity.uib.contact@gmail.com.
