ERC-funded postdoctoral position in computational astrophysics

https://jobregister.aas.org/ad/83dc40ed
We invite applications for one postdoctoral research position funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant DEMOBLACK led by Prof. Michela Mapelli. The DEMOBLACK team studies stellar binary black holes in the field and in star clusters, by means of population synthesis and dynamical simulations.

We particularly invite applications from candidates with experience in the development of direct N-body codes (e.g. NBODY6 or similar codes) and/or binary population synthesis codes.

The successful candidate will join an active research team, working in the vibrant research environment of the University of Padova. Enquiries about the scientific project can be addressed to Michela Mapelli: michela.mapelli@unipd.it
More details about the research group can be found at https://web.oapd.inaf.it/mapelli/group.html
The nominal starting date is expected to be September 2019, but earlier or later dates are possible. Applicants must have a Ph.D. (in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, or equivalent degree), or are expected to obtain their Ph.D. by the time of the appointment. The appointment is for 2 years, with a possible extension up to 4 years depending on performance. Net salaries range approximately from 24000 to 39000 EUR/year, depending on experience, more than adequate for local costs of living. Generous travel funds are available.

Applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests (maximum 3 pages), sample of one of their codes (up to 500 lines), complete list of publications, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to Michela Mapelli, michela.mapelli@unipd.it. Applications sent by **February 28 2019** will receive full consideration. Applications after this date are still welcome until the position is filled.
