Postdoctoral position “Gravitational-wave observations, fundamental
physics and the nature of compact objects” in Zurich, Switzerland
The Physics Institute of the University of Zurich (UZH) is inviting
applications for a postdoctoral position in the Gravitation and
Astrophysics group.
Applicants should have a background in relativistic astrophysics and
gravitational-wave (GW) science. Prior experience in GW data analysis
with LIGO and Virgo is beneficial but not strictly required. The
position is funded in the framework of COST Action CA18108 “Quantum
gravity phenomenology in the multi-messenger approach”
(https://www.cost.eu/actions/CA18108/). The successful candidate is
expected to pursue an independent research program that contributes to
the science goals of the Action. (Possible avenues of research are new
tests of general relativity with GW data, probing the black-hole nature
of massive compact objects, ...)
The Gravitation and Astrophysics group is working on a broad range of
research topics in the field of GW science and general relativity,
including GW source modeling, GW data analysis, tests of GR and
alternative theories of gravity. The successful candidate will have the
opportunity to actively contribute to GW data analysis with ground-based
and space-borne detectors, and join the LIGO Scientific Collaboration
(LSC) and the LISA Consortium through the group’s membership. For more
details on the group and its research interests, see: http://
www.physik.uzh.ch/groups/jetzer
The postdoctoral position is funded for two years, with a possible
extension depending on performance and the availability of funding. The
successful candidate can expect an annual gross salary of CHF 90’000,-
and generous financial support for travel. The position is available as
early as 1 April 2020; a later starting date can be negotiated.
Applications should be sent electronically to Philippe Jetzer
(jetzer@physik.uzh.ch) and should include:
- cover letter
- curriculum vitae (including list of publications)
- brief statement of past research achievements and future research
interests
- names and contact information of three referees for recommendation
letters Applications will be received until 15 February 2020, or until
the position is filled.
The University of Zurich is an equal opportunities employer. Qualified
candidates of all genders and underrepresented groups are strongly
encouraged to apply.
