Astrophysics Research Center of the Open University of Israel (ARCO)

The newly founded Astrophysics Research Center of the Open University of Israel (ARCO) seeks outstanding candidates for postdoctoral positions in gravitational physics and cosmology. The gravitational physics position will focus in research on several aspects of modified gravity theories and extensions of general relativity in all scales from compact objects to cosmology and in various “arenas” like classical self gravitating solutions - either static or spinning, higher dimensional gravity, AdS/CFT applications, cosmological models, dark matter and dark energy. Candidates will have some flexibility to choose between the different directions in their work. The work will be done under the supervision of Prof. Yosef Verbin at ARCO.

The cosmology research will focus on the general topic of intensity mapping, specifically on the redshifted 21 cm emission from the Epoch of reionization. The work will be carried out within the LOFAR international collaboration and will be done under the supervision of Prof. Saleem Zaroubi from ARCO and Univ. of Groningen.

Both positions have Oct 1st 2021 as a starting date, although some flexibility is possible. The appointments are for one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years contingent on the availability of funds and mutual satisfaction. A necessary condition for a successful application is a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in the relevant area of Physics with demonstrated research achievements.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae (including a list of publications) and statement of past research sent to Prof. Verbin at: verbin at openu.ac.il . In addition, they should arrange to have three letters of reference sent directly by the writers to the same address. Application of each applicant will be considered only after all of the requested material has been received. The deadline for applications is May 31st, 2021, or until each position has been filled.
