The Lyon Institute of Origins (LIO) is a long-term project gathering four laboratories of the University of Lyon, in a « Laboratory of Excellence (LabEx) » created in 2011 to investigate the topics of the origins, from the origin of matter to the origins of cosmic structures and life. It funds technical facilities, positions for young researchers, training and valorization.
The IP2I is strongly involved in gravitational waves physics, from the hardware point of view, to the data analysis and theory interpretation.
The thesis is based in Lyon, with possible regular visits to the Virgo site and travels for conferences.
The student will work mostly on data analysis, but also participate to Virgo detector characterization activities and interact with the different local teams working on gravitational waves related topics.
